My name is Jay Spampanato.  I was born and raised on the shore in New Jersey .  From there I relocated to the city were I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Drexel University in Philadelphia , PA.   Having had enough of the city life, I chose to attend graduate school at the University of California, Irvine, where I completed my doctoral dissertation titled The Functional Effects of Sodium Channel Mutations that Cause Generalized Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus in the laboratory of Alan L. Goldin, MD, PhD in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics.  At this point I decided that it was time to head back to the city.

My project at UCLA focused on trying to understand the properties of the neuronal circuitry that underlie normal network oscillations and pathological network oscillations in the case of seizure and epilepsy.  And in my free time I like to mountain bike and snowboard as much as possible.
